A 2019 Kia Forte SX manual sedan. I’ve been leaning towards the Elantra Sport as my next DD but think this looks fantastic, but I know the current gen only offered the turbo in the hatch. If I could get a turbo manual Forte sedan with decent equipment that would probably be my top choice. I wouldn’t mind a hatch necessarily if it looks better than the current melted-Focus design, but have found myself more into sedans lately. I also wouldn’t be opposed to the base engine with the stick if you could get it pretty well equipped but that seems even more unlikely.

I REALLY like the styling of the new Elantra GT hatchback. Would love to have one, but the funds for a new car are a long way off and my ‘09 Accent is still soldiering along! :)

I find the hatchback a little to generic, it looks good in i30n form but we won’t get that here and I don’t want something that high performance for a DD, the lower spec ones just don’t really do it for me although for the first time ever my wife prefers the hatch and I prefer the sedan. I guess I’ve succeeded in converting her while deconverting myself, I just find sedans a little more mature to my eyes these days and won’t miss the little bit of extra practicality.

I really love basic cars, so the less features the better for me, haha! I would also miss the practicality of hatch, so if I were getting a Forte, I would get a hatch model as well.

Almost! Except I think it actually looks better, and it can be had with a stick at least on the base engine. And i could afford it. I really want the g70 2.0t with the stick but that will be out of my range for sure, maybe used someday.

I’ll give you this: I think both are over styled but the stinger can start looking a bit gnarly; like the quad pipes or the fake bonnet scoops.

I mean... This new Kia design language is very appealing in general, I don’t like the stinger’s front that much, I really love the rear even if I hate the quad exhausts. I would like to see a departure from those fake filled out vents to something a bit more natural; if the car doesn’t need the cooling why lie to people with plastic?

The thing I like the most about my car is that you can clearly see the inter cooler just hanging out there sucking some air!

Kinja'd!!!

But the thing I disliked the most were the badges; so we had them removed, now the only eyesore are those stupid exhausts.

Kinja'd!!!

It’s a real shame because I think they could’ve gone with the Optima’s exhausts and called it a day!

I thought the Elantra Sport was incredibly dull to drive, but that’s just my opinion. The steering has less feel than a mid-90's truck. It’s like turning air.

With the new Forte design language, I’m hoping they put the 2.0T in a top trim model and call it the Forte GT to alongside the Stinger

The sedan is definitely not going to have the turbo motor available, but you can get a stick with the base 2.0 liter NA 147 hp motor.

You can have the turbo + manual combo in your choice of Elantra Sport or Elantra GT Sport, and maybe there’ll be a non-N turbo trim of the new Veloster.

Articles on the 2019 Forte hatch say it may come with the turbo but no details yet.

I haven’t seen a “definitely not” yet but yeah, it doesn’t sound likely. Elantra sport is the current frontrunner I just like Kia’s styling a little better. I’d maybe be ok with the base engine as I’m just looking for a DD but I want a sunroof, android auto, a decent stereo and heated seats.

That would be cool but I dunno if I’d spring for it I’m not looking for performance necessarily, just a nice all around DD. At least half the appeal of the Elantra sport or civic si is the ability to get a stick without it being a penalty box (premium sound, heated seats, sunroof are my big wants)

I’m sure coming from a FiST you’d think that and I haven’t driven it yet, but I’m in chicago now so don’t need a canyon carver, just a little pep for the highways. I’m coming from an NC and I’m sure I’d notice it but I also don’t mind driving my wife’s Kia Rio lol.

Depending on the year of the Rio, it might still have hydraulic power steering, which is adequate. In terms of driving dynamics though, it reminded me of my Mom’s Azera. I find my Dad’s 2002 Suburban 2500 more sporty than the Azera.

I agree with most points, it really is some of the details on the stinger that bug me that the forte doesn’t have, the wraparound taillights etc. The quad exhaust is a bit much I like the elantra sport a lot but even that optima is an improvement. I’d probably debadge as well, Kia or Hyundai, not because I’m embarrassed or anything but I just don’t find them attractive. I can see the argument about the fake intakes and stuff and agree with the hood ones but don’t mind the front ones, I think the tesla model 3 looks atrocious and I’d rather have some fake intakes to break up the front a little.

I think BMW pulled it off with the i8 and the Velar isn’t shabby either... even if the Evoque and the RRS do have horrible gaping holes that aren’t actually holes?

Kinja'd!!!

I sort of get the tail light argument, but to me it’s just a character line and I think it looks quite good specially with the pinched design of the rear end.  I debadged it because it’s no one’s business what I’m driving, I’d rather have asshats in Golf GTis saying “NICE OPTIMA BRO” than trying to race me.

It’s a 2013 so it’s electric lol. But as I said, I got my NC for Colorado mountain roads and put up with it as my DD for the weekend fun, but here in Chicago it’s just an appliance and not well suited for its role at all. Plus it is getting pretty old, so I’m more than willing to trade handling and feel for a little pep and comfort. Plus the idea is getting something like a cheaper compact will hopefully allow me to get a beat or something for fun in a year or two.

Yeah flying under the radar is nice, one of the things I dislike about the NC I’m trying to replace. People in new GTIs and the like are always trying to race me, and I’m mostly stock and an NC1 to boot, how is that even a race? Lol. Personally I’d love a g70 but that will definitely be out of my budget, maybe a used one someday if anybody buys the stick new.

I certainly would too, I wish we got the i30 N here in the states but the veloster N is too flashy for me for sure, and I must be getting old because all I can think about is fuel cost and tires etc etc on one of those. I think the 1.6t is a perfect amount of power without being too high maintenance but honestly if I could get a stick in a mid-trim package I’d probably be ok with the base engine, I just don’t want a stripped out base model, I like the Elantra sport and civic si for the stick and heated seats, sunroof etc. But a 2.0t forte even as an auto only would maybe win me over as long as it was around 28k or so.

So far it sounds like stick only on the base model and only one engine confirmed so far, a 1.6 n/a Atkinson with 147hp. I’m hoping for an Elantra sport clone in Forte clothing, 201hp 1.6t with a stick and sunroof, heated seats, Android auto.

So there doing it like the soul which gets manual on base only. I hope they make what you want. You could just get the Elantra sport if they don’t make it.

Yeah that’s the plan, I just prefer the Kia’s styling but still think the elantra is a decent looking sedan. The redesigned hatch hasn’t been shown yet either and that might end up looking pretty good too, I’m just not a fan of the current forte5 and that’s the only way to get the turbo currently. Also I was too late to edit my last comment but it’s actually a 2.0 n/a atkinson, I was incorrect, if you care lol.
